Fertility preservation (FP) involves the cryopreservation of embryos, eggs, and sperm that can later be thawed and used in assisted reproduction. This brief talk will cover two of the ethical issues raised by current efforts by scientific researchers to improve FP techniques. The first issue, which is not unique to FP but is relevant to many assisted reproductive practices, concerns how much we ought to value people’s ability to be genetic parents. The second issue is whether FP services should be available for use by women who worry about reproductive aging.
