This session addressed concerns about the use of DNA analysis and other genetic technologies for forensic purposes. It began with an overview of the scientific and procedural controversies surrounding forensic DNA databases and techniques, as well as the human rights and racial justice issues associated with them. The session continued by focusing on questions concerning policy, outreach, litigation and other public engagement with these issues. Presenters offered a global scope, including the role of the United Kingdom in pioneering and utilizing DNA databases, United States policies on DNA forensics, and a new German campaign to raise public awareness.
