This session was designed as a forum for sharing ideas on curricula that address bioethics and social issues in genetics. Bringing together educators to discuss how they approach their courses will create opportunities for describing what works in the classroom, improving existing course models, and developing collaborations. Presenters from several disciplines (biology, anthropology, science and technology studies, law, and bioethics) described their specific approaches to teaching bioethics and the social issues surrounding genetic technologies. The presenters then provided a comparative breakdown of teaching challenges they have confronted, including issues around pedagogy, boundaries and scope, politics and ethics, assessment, and modern relevance. This feedback can be used to fill the gaps in existing curricula, develop new models, and identify effective means of student engagement.
