BiDil at the Bedside

My presentation will be on the use of BiDil at the bedside. It will be based on an empirical bioethical study I am conducting on factors influencing the prescription of BiDil by internal medicine residents and physicians at the University of Cincinnati. BiDil is a drug approved by the FDA in 2005 for race-specific prescription to treat congestive heart failure in blacks. The goal of the study is to probe whether health professionals actually take race into account in prescribing this drug. My ultimate objective is to determine necessary ethical rules that will enable physicians to treat cardiovascular disease with BiDil while avoiding the ‘reification’ of race in clinical cardiology. But because my research is at its early stage, the presentation as such will be primarily on the prescription patterns of this drug by the internists.
